A local operator will be taking it over, here's when you can expect to see films again

It looks like Albany's beloved Spectrum Theater, famous for showcasing independent films, has been saved. In February, it's previous operator Landmark Theaters announced they were closing the Delaware Avenue cinema.

But it didn't take long for another theater operator to seize the opportunity and take over the now-closed facility.

Locally owned Scene One Entertainment (formerly BowTie Cinemas) has officially taken the reigns of the Spectrum Theater and plan to reopen on April 24th. Scene One CEO Joe Masher told the Times Union that he's had dreams of running the Spectrum since he was a child:

Having loved the operation of the Spectrum, and seeing all the movies they played there, I thought, ‘Wow, I’d love to run that someday.' I have countless movie-going experiences at the Spectrum that I can remember and enjoy… It’s that kind of heart and soul that I want to bring back to the theater.

Masher says he plans to bring back all of the concessions previously offered, including real butter popcorn, Motor Oil Coffee, locally baked goods and have even applied for a liquor license.

Right now we’re going to spruce it up, clean it up, put the art gallery back and bring back the stuff that made it special to make sure people have a comfortable, clean, safe and enjoyable night at the movies.

All former employees have also been invited to return to their jobs.

Scene One currently operates Movieland in Schenectady and the Wilton Mall Cinemas.
