The City of Amsterdam is gearing up for an Earth Day Cleanup event on April 22nd, and they are inviting residents to come out and help keep their community beautiful. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. until noon, with volunteers meeting at Veterans Park to pick up trash bags, gloves, and breakfast.

Once the cleanup is complete at noon, lunch will be served at Veterans Park, and there will be prize giveaways sponsored by local businesses including What-A-Bargain, What-A-Auction, and Southside Slice. It’s a great way to celebrate the hard work and accomplishment of the day while enjoying some delicious food and perhaps even winning a prize.

But that’s not all! Earth Day will also be an excellent opportunity for residents to recycle old, unwanted paint. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., people can drop off products including latex paint (acrylic), oil paint (alkyd), stains, shellacs, lacquers, sealers, varnishes, urethanes, and textured coatings. However, some products will not be accepted, such as aerosol (spray) paint, paint thinners, solvents, cleaning agents, gasoline, drywall compound, caulks, and household hazardous waste. If you plan on dropping off paint, be sure to check the list of acceptable products.

So mark your calendar for April 22nd and join your neighbors for a fun and meaningful day of cleaning up the community and recycling paint. You’ll be making a difference in the world while having fun, making new friends, and enjoying some great food and prizes.
