Albany Parade Day: Road Closures, Parking Restrictions, and What to Know

It's going to be a busy Parade Day in downtown Albany

Albany is getting ready for a full day of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on Saturday, March 14, with two parades taking place across the city: the North Albany Limerick Parade and the 75th annual Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

With thousands expected to attend, the City has announced several road closures and parking restrictions along both parade routes to keep residents and visitors safe during the festivities.

Here’s what to know before heading out.


North Albany Limerick Parade

Saturday, March 14 | 11:30 AM start

The North Albany Limerick Parade will follow a new route this year.

The parade begins on Broadway and will travel north to the Menands village line, then turn left onto Wolfert Avenue and continue west to North Pearl Street, ending at the intersection of North Pearl Street and Wolfert Avenue.

Road Closures

9:30 AM – 1:30 PM (or until the parade concludes)

Road closures will include:

  • Broadway between Wolfert Avenue and Loudonville Road

  • Bridge Street between Mill Street and Broadway

  • Mill Street between Bridge Street and Tivoli Street

  • Emmett Street at Broadway

  • Albany Street at Broadway

  • Mohawk Street at Broadway

  • Genesee Street at Broadway

  • North First Street at Broadway

  • Erie Street at Broadway

  • South Street at Broadway

  • Main Street at Broadway

  • Center Street at Broadway

  • North Second Street at Broadway

  • North Street at Broadway

  • North Third Street at Broadway

  • Lawn Avenue at Broadway

  • Bonheim Street at Broadway

  • Lindberg Avenue at Broadway

  • North Pearl Street at Lawn Avenue

Bonheim Street and Lindbergh Avenue will also have traffic restrictions near Broadway and North Pearl Street.

Parking Restrictions

8:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Parking will be restricted on:

  • North Pearl Street (both sides) from Lawn Avenue to Wolfert Avenue

  • Broadway (both sides) from Loudonville Road to Wolfert Avenue

  • Bridge Street from Broadway to Mill Street

  • Mill Street from Bridge Street to Tivoli Street


75th Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Saturday, March 14 | 2:00 PM start

Albany’s main St. Patrick’s Day Parade celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

The parade begins at Lexington Avenue, then travels:

  • East on Central Avenue

  • East on Washington Avenue

  • East on State Street, ending near James Street

Road Closures

Closures will begin early in the morning and expand throughout the day.

7:00 AM
Central Avenue between Quail Street and Lexington Avenue closes for parade lineup.

8:00 AM
The parade route closes to all traffic.

12:30 PM
Henry Johnson Boulevard and Lark Street will close to traffic. After that, the entire parade route will remain closed until the parade concludes.

Major closures include:

  • Central Avenue from Quail Street to Washington Avenue

  • Washington Avenue from Central Avenue to the Washington/Eagle/State Street intersection

  • State Street from Washington Avenue/Eagle Street to Broadway

All cross streets along the parade route will also be closed, including Eagle Street and both North and South Pearl Streets between Pine Street and Hudson Avenue.


Parking Restrictions for the Albany Parade

Friday, March 13 – Saturday, March 14

6:00 AM Friday – 6:00 PM Saturday

  • Central Avenue Parking Lot #4 (Central Ave. and Lexington Ave.) will be restricted.

Saturday, March 14

6:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Parking restrictions will be in place on several streets near the route, including:

  • Central Avenue from Quail Street to Lark Street

  • Quail Street, North Lake Avenue, Robin Street, and Lexington Avenue between Bradford Street and Sherman Street

  • Washington Avenue from Lark Street to State Street

  • Eagle Street from State Street to Pine Street

  • State Street from Lark Street to Broadway

  • Broadway from Pine Street to Hudson Avenue

  • Green Street from State Street to Madison Avenue

  • Dallius Street from Hudson Avenue to Division Street

  • South Swan Street from Madison Avenue to Washington Avenue

Accessible parking will be available on side streets adjacent to Central Avenue, with officers available to assist if needed.


Off-Street Parking Options

Several ParkAlbany garages and lots will offer parking near the parade route.

Uptown

  • Parking Lot 2 – 72 Central Ave.

  • Parking Lot 3 – 327 Washington Ave.

Downtown

  • Green-Hudson Garage – 45 Hudson Ave.

  • Riverfront Garage – 2 Columbia St.

  • Quackenbush Garage – 45 Orange St.


Also Happening Downtown

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus will also be at MVP Arena during parade weekend, with multiple shows scheduled on Saturday.

With both parades and a major event happening downtown, drivers should expect large crowds, additional traffic, and limited parking throughout the day.
