Stolen 'Welcome to Lake George' Sign has been Found

So where was it?

Last week the iconic 'Welcome to the Village of Lake George' sign, prominently displayed on Beach Road, vanished without a trace. Although village officials and residents would love to know who did it, more than anything they just wanted their sign back.

Thanks to one local hiker, the sign was found.

On Saturday, Philip Underwood took advantage of the nice weather to walk his dogs along the hiking trail at Prospect Mountain. During his walk, he spotted something in the woods that didn't quite fit. So he snapped a photo and posted to Facebook.

Underwood got in touch with Warren County Sheriffs, who sent an officer to pick up the sign, but it was too big and heavy to fit in the police vehicle. Instead, Underwood and the officer picked up and carried the 90 pound sign to Underwood's truck and took it to the Warren County Sherriff's office.

Police still have the sign but it's expected to return to Beach Road soon. NewsChannel 13 says no arrests have been made, but police will continue to investigate.
