The bridge work should be completed by the end of the Summer

Starting this Monday, January 29th, the Kings Road Bridge will be closed through this Summer.

The bridge, which was said to be "structurally deficient" in 2017, will be replaced and will cause detours for motorists. Those detours, according to The Daily Gazette will be as follows -

Motorists will be rerouted to detours along Highbridge Road in Rotterdam, Albany Street, Route 7 and Interstate 890 while the bridge work is ongoing.

Also from The Daily Gazette, Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy said -

“It will create a little bit of inconvenience for residents and individuals who use that roadway,” Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy said during the city council meeting on Monday evening. “Some of the signs are up today [Monday] informing the public of the detour routes. We look forward to having it completed and it’ll be open before everybody knows it.”

Aside from the Schenectady City Council approving the $5.3 Million bid from Winn Construction Services for the work on the bridge, they are also considering dropping the speed limit through the area as well. At the moment, the speed limit on Kings Rd. is 30mph but the City Council is thinking about lowering it to 25mph even though a study from traffic engineer Fred Mastroianni found that lowering it is not recommended.
