There may be hope for the soon-to-be closed college
The Times Union is reporting that a New York City college is in talks to merge with Albany's College of Saint Rose. Touro University, a Jewish college with campuses in New York, Illinois, Nevada and California, confirmed they have engaged in preliminary discussions about partnering with Albany 104 year old college.
Saint Rose has been dealing with a heavy $48 million debt. The school's board of trustees voted to close the college at the end of the Spring 2024 semester.
No specific details were disclosed, but the TU says any deal would be contingent on Saint Rose's current bondholders signing off on any merger. Plus, with the end of the current semester in sight, an agreement would need to be made quickly.
Developing.
