Remember back in 2004 when Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson were performing during the Halftime Show at The Super Bowl and Justin ripped away part of Janet's outfit?
It was deemed a "wardrobe malfunction" at the time. Both Janet and Justin have stuck to that story, as well as many other people that had insight into the performance. Well, now there's a new theory about the famous incident.
Was it planned?
According to Wayne Scot Lukas, who was Janet's designer and stylist, claims that it was not a malfunction. He says that it went exactly the way that it was supposed to. Lukas says that originally there was a different "reveal" that was supposed to happen involving a G-String (we're guessing worn by Jackson, but who knows). Anyway, Lukas claims that a few days before the performance, plans were changed and Timberlake was going to expose Janet's "Jacksons", if ya know what I mean?
By the way, neither Janet or Justin have confirmed this story nor have they even acknowledged his comments, but let's continue on.
Lukas also says that the camera was supposed to cut away immediately before the screen went dark but never did. Instead, Janet was on National TV, well...you know what happened. Basically, Wayne is blaming the production crew for failing to stick to the plan. What makes the timing of all of this, convenient to say the least, is the fact that there is a new 4 part docuseries set to be released on Apple TV about Justin Timberlake and it's believed that they will be revisiting the 2004 performance. A docuseries that Lukas was not asked to be a part of, just so you know. Janet is expected to make an appearance in it however, addressing the events in question.
Will we ever find out who is telling the truth when it comes to one of the most famous, or infamous, Super Bowl performances? Who knows! But this certainly adds a new twist to the whole thing.
Trust us, I thought about adding the video of the whole performance here so you could watch it again, but I figured that enough people got in trouble for the whole thing when it happened. I have no need to be added to that list. Sorry to disappoint.
