Last night at The Grammy's, Jay-Z was honored with the "Dr. Dre Global Impact' award and during his speech he took the time to call out The Grammy's for never giving his wife, Beyonce, the "Album of The Year" award.
While HOV did say that over the last few years The Grammy's have gotten better, they still have word to do. He brought up the fact that Bey has won the most Grammy's ever, she has 32, but she has never won "Album of The Year". While he didn't mention her by name, we're all aware of who he was talking about.
He pointed out that their metrics do not really add up. He also threw in some talk about the boycotts over the years, including when Fresh Prince (Will Smith) and DJ Jazzy Jeff boycotted the year they won "Best Rap Album". The reason they boycotted was because while The Grammy's were honoring a rap album that year, the award was not given away on TV. It was done before the show. So Jay talked about that and how Will and Jeff then watched the show in a hotel room, which he said was a strange boycott. Then Jay talks about his boycott when DMX wasn't nominated but reminded everyone that he too watched the show.
All in all, I thought it was a really good acceptance speech. Watch for yourself.
