Never in a million years would I have thought that taking a selfie would become a public health risk but here we are. According to experts, taking a selfie should come with "safety messaging" because people are getting seriously injured or even worse, killed while taking them.

Selfie related deaths at aquatic locations stands out as the most concerning issue, which includes taking pics at scenic or photogenic areas. Now, according to this study, smart phone use and their apps are dangerous all by themselves but it also says that falls from heights due to selfie taking is most common cause for injury or death.

Sam Cornell, who is the lead author of the study told FoxNews.com - 

"In the U.S. and Australia, people are getting injured or dying while alone — normally as a result of falling from a cliff."

"We owe it to young people to mitigate this problem by communicating the risks," Cornell said. "It is a public health concern."

While I totally understand the risk and serious nature of what's going on, does anyone else feel like being more aware of your surroundings might help this issue? Perhaps taking a selfie on a cliff or at the edge of a tall building might not be the best thing? I understand how great the pic is going to look but that's only if you survive.
