Cell phones and electric devices will not be allowed in class.
Both Berlin Middle and High Schools are changing their "code of conduct" for the upcoming school year. Cell phones and electronic devices will no long be allowed in classes to help cut down on distractions. According to the new update to the schools policy, cell phones and all electronic devices must be put in the students lockers before school starts until the end of the school day.
If a student is caught with a phone or electronic device, it will be taken away and returned at the end of the school day for their first offense. If the student is caught a second time then a parent must come to the school and collect the phone or device. The student will also face disciplinary actions such as in-school suspension.
The district will be holding a number of question and answer forums to help clear up any concerns that parents may have.
Those question and answer forums are as follows -
- Petersburgh Public Library, Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 3:30 p.m.
- Berlin Middle High School, Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
- Grafton Library, Monday, Aug. 12 at 1 p.m.
- Berlin Free Town Library, Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m.
- Stephenstown Memorial Library, Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m.
