What Is The Favorite Pie In New York State?

The answer is a bit of a surprise.

I want you to think of your favorite pie for me, if you will. Is it apple? Pumpkin? Strawberry rhubarb? Possibly lemon meringue?

All of those would seem to be logical answers, especially here in New York, right? Well according to a survey that was conducted by Mixbook, the favorite pie of us New Yorkers is grape pie. Wait, what? Grape pie? I didn't even know that grape pie was a thing.

What is grape pie and where did it come from? As it turns out, grape pie is originally from Naples area of the Finger Lakes region. It's made by cooking down local grapes into what would be considered a thick jam and then that is added to the pie crust and baked. Now, while it sounds delicious, I'm curious about who is actually making these and or eating them. I've never even heard of grape pie.

I would like to know where this survey took place, to be honest. Was it conducted in Western New York or was it actually done in the entire State? I can see this pie being popular in Western NY, especially since it's origin is out there. However I can't see that many people in the Capital Region or any other part of NY saying that their favorite pie is grape. If I was asked what I thought the most popular pie in NY is, I would've said apple without a hesitation. Obviously, I would've been incorrect.

Now clearly my thoughts on grape pie and just one persons opinion but I don't think I'm that far off base here. How many people reading this prefer grape pie over apple or pumpkin?

Anyway, if you're interested in possibly baking a grape pie here's how you would do it.
