There are reports that a state trooper has been injured.
Update 5:36pm: New York State Police confirm trooper Kristen Sullivan was conducting a traffic stop on the Thruway northbound in Bethlehem. A Subaru Forrester swerved to avoid hitting a tractor trailer that was changing lanes, but swiped the drivers side of the police cruiser. The officer is being treated for minor injuries to her neck and back and is expected to be released from Albany Med soon.
Update 12:45pm: The accident scene has been cleared and traffic is back to normal.

Update 11:12am: New York State Police continue to investigate the accident, the trooper who was hit was taken to Albany Med where his injuries are reportedly non-life threatening. The right lane northbound between exits 21A and 22 remains closed.

On August 8, 2025, at about 8:45 a.m. State Police responded to the report of a crash involving a New York State Trooper on I-87 Thruway in Bethlehem, NY.
The Trooper was conducting a traffic stop at the time of the crash and was struck by a northbound vehicle. The Trooper was in the vehicle and the time of the crash and sustained what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and the right lane is currently closed.
NewsChannel 13 says an accident happened northbound on the Thruway between exits 21A and 22 Friday morning - while a trooper was conducting a traffic stop, he was hit by a passing vehicle.
The right lane of the Thruway northbound is closed at Exit 22 and backups stretch from Selkirk south to Coeymans. The I-90 Berkshire Connector westbound is also backed up due to the accident.
State Police say multiple cars are involved and encourage drivers to avoid the area and use other routes if possible.
